What it is . . . ![]() The Interactive Digital Video SystemTM (iDVSTM) utilizes software that provides an Internet based “Store and Forward” distribution system for classroom instructional video and many other types of visual images. The exclusive e-Mod / iDVS viewer software provides the capability to view videos or other media “full screen” and to add annotations to create interactive instructional classroom lessons and student based projects. The e-Mod.com corporation works closely with numerous educational video producers, providing digitized video content for many of today’s most widely utilized classroom instructional materials. This ensures that the media is current, topical, and meets the needs of today's standards driven educational curriculum. Approximately 2000 titles are currently available and the collection is constantly updated. As necessary, the e-Mod.com corporation will work with your video supplier to arrange for the digital IP distribution rights to additional media. System users are not restricted to the media content that is available from e-Mod.com. Any standard media file, such as mpg, avi, mov, or jpg, can be utilized with the e-Mod / iDVSTM viewer. Existing digital media collections, public domain media, or locally produced digital media may also be utilized effectively in the educational setting. Interactive iDVSTM Viewer Technology . . . The most important feature of this technology is the viewer that provides the capability to annotate videos and still images. Creating interactive classroom lessons and student projects, with either the Windows or the Macintosh version of the e-Mod / iDVS viewer, will enhance the educational value of the classroom curriculum materials that are being utilized. Move beyond just using linear video in the classroom - explore the power of interactivity! The viewer provides the capability for full-screen/full-motion projection at virtually the same frame rate as broadcast quality television. In a typical lesson, a science teacher might present a video on
cell mitosis. The viewer supports many of the features of modern word processors, such as the ability to change type fonts, sizes, colors, and backgrounds. Existing Microsoft Word text also can be “pasted” into annotations or the annotation content can be pasted into a Word document and then printed, creating an instant student study guide or teacher notes. This interactive system presents the classroom teacher with the capability to utilize this technology in many innovative ways. The teacher can electronically review the students’ work, add additional virtual sticky note comments, and electronically return the completed assignment to the student’s computer. Individual or groups of students could also prepare an annotated video presentation for the remainder of the class that illustrates various instructional concepts presented in the video. When annotations are saved on the computer, they are stored in a small computer file separate from the original video Consequently, they may be utilized many times or modified for future lessons. The original video film is unchanged, which preserves the copyright. The e-Mod /iDVSTM viewer is the only product available to educators that provides this annotation capability to create teacher lessons and student projects. Without its' features, educators are reduced to showing linear video to their students, just as they did with 16 mm film. Web Based Video Management System . . . This innovative software
system will allow students and teachers to search a web based media/video
catalog. Any selected media
image or video
can be downloaded over the Internet to the teacher’s desktop computer for use in the classroom or other designated location in the
school.
Media images or digitized films from other sources, that are stored in the most
common formats such as “mpg”, “mov”, “avi’ or
“QuickTime”, can also be utilized, and the viewer also provides the
capability to view still images, such as “jpg” and “bmp” files.
A scheduling system enables the video files to be downloaded over
night, when the school Internet connection is not as heavily utilized.
