iDVS^TM Viewer Installation

Login to an eMod/iDVS™ Server

• Open Internet Explorer or Netscape.
• Type URL address of web site.
• Enter Login Name and Password and Click Enter.

 

Downloading and Installing the e-Mod/iDVS™ Viewer – Microsoft Windows Version

• Look in the News Box on the main screen.   Click on Download the latest Viewer.
• Click the Download link for Windows (95/98/NT/2000)
• Click on Save This Program to Disk and select the Save in location – usually the Desktop.  (Remember the correct path so you can find the file to install it.)
• After downloading, click on the MPViewer.exe file and follow the screen directions to install the viewer.  Use the defaults unless you have a good reason not to do so.
• If desired, create a shortcut on the Desktop for the viewer.

 

Downloading/Installing the e-Mod/iDVS^TM Viewer – Apple Macintosh Version

·        The installation file is called eMViewer.hqx, which is a packed (compressed) file.  In most circumstances, this file will be automatically expanded when it is downloaded from an e-Mod/iDVS web site to the MAC desktop.  If the viewer file is provided on a CD ROM disk, copy this file from the CD ROM disk to the MAC Desktop.  Using Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator to open it off line may expand the file.

• If necessary, use a program, such as “Stuffit Expander” to expand (uncompress) the file.  (This program, and similar programs, may be downloaded from the Internet.  Freeware versions are available.)  Once the file is expanded, look for the file on the desktop named “eMotion Viewer Installer”.  Double click / open this file.  The installation process will start.  Choose Easy Install.  When prompted, use the defaults unless you have a good reason not to do so.
• If your computer is connected to the Internet through a network, you may need to configure information for a Proxy Server, if one is used on your network.  Check with your network administrator to obtain the IP address or server name and port number if a Proxy Server is utilized.  If this is the case:

o       Open the eMotion Viewer.

o       From the Title Bar, click on Edit and then click on Preferences.

o       Click on the third tab to the right “Proxy”.

o       Click on the “Check Box “Use Proxy” and enter the IP Address and Port Number in the indicated boxes.

o       Click OK.

·        Register the eMotion Viewer as a "helper" application for the browser.  In the steps below, make sure you select the eMotion Viewer File and not the original installation file “eMViewer.hqx” or the installation file “eMotion Viewer Installer”.  Use one of the following procedures depending on your browser version:

 

Internet Explorer Setup (MAC):

• ·Select "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu.

• In the resulting IE Preferences window, select "File Helpers" 

          under the heading "Receiving Files":

• Press the "Add" button to add a new helper application, and

          fill in the fields of the resulting File Helper window:

• Representation

o       Description: eMotion Viewer annotation file

Extension:   .anx

·              MIME type:   application/annotation

• ·File Type

o       Application: (use the Browse button to select the "eMotion Viewer" application)

• ·File Type:   ANNO      File Creator:  eMvw

• Download Destination

o       Download to: Download Folder

o       Handling

o       How to handle: Post-Process with Application

o       Application:   eMotion Viewer 

Netscape Navigator setup (MAC):

• Select "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu.

•  In the resulting Preferences window, select "Applications" under the heading "Navigator".

• Press the "New" button to add a new helper application, and fill in the fields of the resulting

 	Type window:

o       Description: eMotion Viewer annotation file

o       MIME Type:   application/annotation

o       Suffixes:    anx

• Handled by

o       Application: (use the Choose button to select the "eMotion ViewerTM" 

	application)

• File info

o       File type: ANNO

• Click OK and then click OK again to exit preferences

 

 

Configuring the Viewer Settings – PC and MAC Versions

 

• Login to an e-Mod/iDVS™ Server
• Click on Options on the web site top title bar.
• In the Time Zone box, select your offset from Greenwich Mean Time (UTC).  (Eastern Standard Time is –5.  Don't forget to adjust for Daylight Savings Time!)
• Click OK
• Click on Options a second time and click on Helpers.
• Click on Set Download Directory and select the desired directory – usually the Desktop on a PC or a folder on the Desktop on a Macintosh..
• The first time this is done, a screen will appear asking whether the viewer has been installed.  Click the box for yes and Click OK. Return to Options/Helpers a second time and set the download directory.
• Set the Send/Publish/Download wizard options by clicking the bottom box for each.  Click Ok.
• Check these settings prior to downloading any media files from an e-Mod/iDVS^TM server.  These settings are stored as “cookies” by the browser used to login to the server.  Whenever “cookie” files are deleted on the client computer, the viewer settings must be reconfigured.
