Specifications
Server Hardware:
Platform: Dell 4600 PowerEdge or comparable general purpose server. (Minimum suggested, although a less robust platform will work with the system. Contact e-Mod Technical Support for further information.
Processors: Two Intel Xeon 2.0 GHZ / 512 K Cache Processors.
Memory: Four GB SDRAM (Additional RAM will require Windows 2000 Advanced Server Operating System).
Hard Drives: Four 36 GB SCSI 10,000 RPM drives are suggested (three minimum). Consider the total size of the video collection to be stored on the server. One hour of MPEG 1 video requires approximately one GB of hard drive storage space. The Dell 4600 can support up to eight 73 GB drives in the drive cage and two additional drives in the Media Bay. Two 18 GB drives are suggested for the Media By to hold the operating system and other required software.
Data Security: RAID 5 is essential. A hardware RAID 5 system is preferable and is available from Dell with this server package. Using RAID 5 requires a minimum of three identical hard drives. Utilizing RAID 5 will not only provide data security, but more importantly, it will allow all of the individual drives to be recognized as a single large drive, which is essential for storage of the media and the e-Mod / iDVS and other required software. If installed, the two 18 GB drives in the Media Bay should be configured as a Mirror Set (RAID 1). An external tape backup system should also be considered. Appropriate planning is essential, so that the maximum amount of required hard drive storage space is made available in the initial installation. This is much more efficient than adding additional storage space at a later time.
Network Cards: A minimum of two 10/100 Ethernet ports/cards are required. A Dell 4600 has two ports built into the motherboard.
Power Supply: Redundant power supplies are strongly suggested. An uninterruptible power supply is also strongly suggested.
Server Software:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Operating System (Advances Server is required if the RAM will exceed 4 GB).
Microsoft Sequel Server 2000 Standard Edition (5 client licenses).
Current Microsoft Service Packs and Critical Updates.
Symantec pcAnywhere v. 9.2 or later.
Sortware Artisans SAFileUp v. 3.8 or later
Customer Responsibilities:
Server: Server setup and configuration of the Windows Operating System, Installation of Service Packs and Critical Updates. Please contact the e-Mod Technical Support staff prior to updating the server software and installing service packs and critical updates. The e-Mod Technical Support staff will install the remaining software to complete the installation.
ISP Connection: Connection to an appropriate Internet Service Provider that provides adequate bandwidth for the system.. A minimum T1 connection is recommended for a regional system, with significant additional bandwidth recommended for larger area installations.
